How to Hit an Iron Shot

If your swing is in a rut and you’re having a hard time getting your irons off the ground, this tip is for you! One of the most common follies when hitting irons is that people forget that the iron is built to get the ball up in the air by hitting down on the ball, not scooping it up. This often results in weight on the back foot and a lousy shot. To get a better result from you iron shots, use the following steps:

  • Keep your hands even with the ball
  • Hit down on the ball, not up
  • Make sure to shift your weight from your back to your front foot
