Golf Tip: Downhill Lie

April 4, 2013

Successfully negotiating a downhill lie

One of the most challenging lies on the golf course is the downhill lie. Rather than despair, take a look at our video tip, start practicing, and perfect this downhill technique.

1. In your setup, make sure to align your shoulders parallel to the slope. This will give you the best chance of making good contact with the ball.

2. Club selection is also very important. You will need quite a bit of loft to get this shot up in the air.

3. Keep your weight on your downhill foot. You might even find your weight going down the hill as your complete your swing– that’s completely fine!

Minnesota PGA Professional Mike Barge demonstrates this easy-to-follow tip in the video below:

The Minnesota Section PGA consists of PGA Professionals who are experts in the game and business of golf. Our mission is to promote the enjoyment and involvement of the game of golf and to contribute to its growth by providing services to golf professionals, the golf industry, people who play golf or would like to start playing golf. PGA Section Offices oversee the 41 geographic regions throughout the United States and provide the grass-roots network for the nation’s 25 million amateur golfers and with the PGA’s 27,000 members.
