What year did you turn professional?

What was your motivation to become a PGA professional?

Phil Anderson

Phil Anderson

I grew up spending a couple weeks every summer with my uncle Frank Taylor, a PGA professional at Eastwood Golf Club in Rochester, MinnesotaEvery morning I would ride out to the course with him and spend the entire day on the course. I fell in love with our daily routine and in turn the game of golf. The aspect of being a PGA professional that continues my love for the game is my day-to-day interaction with the people I meet.

How do you believe you are enhancing the game of golf?

At Southview, we continually implement new programs to help our members get more involved. We really make an effort to reach out to junior golfers to engage them in this wonderful game. We offer a series of programs based on skills, desire, and age.

What was your greatest moment in golf?

While attending New Mexico State University’s PGM program I qualified for our semester long match play tournament. As a freshman I qualified for the 64th seed. I drew the #1 seed playing against the defending champion, whom had won the previous four semesters. I was fortunate enough to beat him 2 & 1. That was definitely one of the highlights in my career.

Who has had the greatest impact on your career?

Ray Vennewitz, a great mentoring golf professional. He instilled in me the importance of taking care of your members and that they always come first. He is also the most organized individual I know. Ray and his family have greatly impacted the success I have today.

When you are not golfing, how do you like to spend your day?

I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family and friends.

If you could play any course in the world, which one would it be and who would complete your foursome?

I would love to play at Augusta National with Tiger Woods, my brother, and father. It would be an unbelievable day!

Congratulations Phil on an outstanding year and for being a role model in the Minnesota PGA golf community.
