Tim Brovold caps a strong season with two wins

Tim Brovold of Bunker Hills knows how to end a season in style. The Assistants’ Chapter Player of the Year leader wrapped up his competitive golf season with a win at the section Assistants’ Championship at Somerby Golf Club. That trophy now sits alongside the hardware he earned for his win in August at the MN PGA Professional Championship. That win in August is good enough to punch a ticket for Brovold to play in the PGA Professional National Championship, which could lead to a trip to the 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.

“This year was fairly up and down for me,” says Brovold. “I had been struggling with consistency with the entire game the past few years but I feel like I have finally hit my stride with both ball striking and putting.”

In the Section Championship, Brovold rode a 2nd round 68, 4-under par to beat Paul Speltz from Midland Hills Country Club, by a stroke. He followed that at the Assistants’ Championship at North Oaks with a 4-under for the tournament to edge Jesse Nelson, from The Pines, by a stroke. When asked which win was more meaningful he said they were both meaningful, but winning the Section Championship meant a little more.

“Mainly because of the opportunities it presents and also doing so against some of the legends of our Section like Don Berry, Dave Tentis and Jeff Sorenson makes it extra special. I always have and will continue to look up to them.”

In 21 MN PGA Section events this season, Brovold had 6-top ten finishes, including his two victories. He currently is 6th on the money list, pocketing more than $9,500 and 6th in the Player of the Year points race. Next season Tim doesn’t expect to play in any additional tournaments, but hopes to play more consistently and confidently.

A top 20 finish at the PGA Professional National Championship at The Philadelphia Cricket Club next summer will send Brovold to the PGA Championship in August and his first trip to Whistling Straits.

“It is on my list for sure to play and to do so in the 2015 PGA Championship would be a dream and is now a current goal.”
