Junior Tour Underway after Opener at Goodrich GC; BT and TT to Start this Week

June 16, 2015

This past Friday, June 12th 2015, the Junior Tour kicked off at Goodrich GC in Saint Paul, MN. The Minnesota Section PGA Junior Tour is designed for juniors, ages 13-18 years old, split into two age groups: 13-15 & 16-18. All events are 18-hole stroke play competition, and open to junior golfers of various playing abilities: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

With over 110 participants showing up, the first event of the year was widely viewed as a great success. We look forward to increased participation throughout the year and to build on a great foundation. Events will continue into the week, and in addition the Beginners Tour (June 16) and Transition Tour (June 15) started this week.

At this time, we would like to recognize the medalists and winners from the four divisions of juniors at Goodrich GC on June 12th:

Boys 13-15: Winner: Carl Berghult, T-2nd: Matthew Garside & Caleb VanArragon

Boys 16-18: Winner: Sam Berghult, 2nd: Cole Crawford, 3rd: Chase Mouch

Girls 13-15: Winner: Clara Godoy-Henderson, 2nd: Ananda Zhai, 3rd: Sarah Betts

Girls 16-18: Winner: Olivia Klefsaas, 2nd: Anna Rastetter, 3rd: Natalia Cossack

Carl Berghult, the winner of the Boys 13-15 year old division, won with a +6 (76) while Sam Berghult won the older Boys division with a +4 (74). Carl credited his short game as the reason for his success in the first tournament. On the other hand, Sam mentioned his desire to “improve his putting, yet stay consistent in the other areas to score low.”

For the ladies, Clara Godoy-Henderson won the Girls 13-15 year old division with a +14 (84) and Olivia Klefsaas was the champion of the older Girls division scoring a +10 (80). Clara emphasized setting herself up great by “hitting very well off of the tee.” Olivia was happy with the result but not satisfied noting areas to improve, “I want to be able to hit more greens than I did today.”

We look forward to the rest of the events following the opener and continuing to grow the game of golf in Minnesota!
