July 17, 2015

Austin VanSytzama of Delano, MN and Anni Heck of Eagan, MN won the 2015 Minnesota Section Junior PGA Championship in impressive fashion playing exceptional golf both days. The 2015 Minnesota Junior PGA Championship was presented by Under Armour and Genesis Networks.

Austin VanSytzama Winner

VanSytzama out of Delano, MN stole the show in the Boy’s division with two rounds under par and a combined -4 (140) for the tournament. He first took the lead in the first round with a (-1) 71; sharing it with two others. His first round was highlighted by four birdies remaining consistent with no score outside of birdie, par, and bogey. VanSytzama had a comfortable lead for a majority of the final day winning by four strokes and only feeling any real pressure from Morgan Donohue of Mendota Heights, MN, the champion of the 13-15 age division, who matched VanSytzama’s final round (-3) 69. VanSytzama will be joining the nation’s top junior golfers at the 2015 Junior PGA Championship at Miramont Country Club in Bryan/College Station, Texas.

Anni Heck Winner

Heck of Eagan, MN, similar to the Boys’ division, shared a lead with Kate Smith of Detroit Lakes, MN after the first round of the Girls’ division. Her road to the title was a little more intriguing and tightly contested all the way until the final hole–edging out Smith by two strokes with a -2 under back nine. Heck birdied the par 3, 17th hole after a great tee shot put her within distance to cup the birdie putt and give her a two stroke lead. This is not uncharted waters for her as this is her second championship in the past three years, also having won in 2013. She will be joining VanSytzama at the 2015 Junior PGA Championship in Texas playing in the Girls’ division at Miramont Country Club on August 3rd-6th.
