Golf Background:

Ray went to Hill Murray High School and after attended St. John’s University to play golf. He graduated with a Business Management Degree and two years later at the age of 24, he decided to get into the PGA program. Ray got his membership in 2002 starting as an Assistant Professional at Southview Country Club in 1994. After a few years at Southview, he worked at Briarwood Club in Iowa as the Head Professional for a year. Ray traveled back to Minnesota to become the Assistant Professional at North Oaks Golf Club for five years before making his second stint at Southview Country Club as the Head Professional. Following in his father’s footsteps, Ray returned to North Oaks Golf Club as the Head Professional where he has been for almost 8 years.

When and why did you decide to become a PGA Professional?

“2002. My dad was the Head Professional at North Oaks for 43 years, so I grew up out here watching my dad and played a lot. My dad had a large impact on my career because watching him be successful made me want to take after him in the golf business.”

What does winning this award mean to you and your facility?

“It is really more about the facility, we have a wonderful golf course. This year we held the Section Championship, last year we hosted the Assistants’ Championship, and next year we have the Minnesota State Am here. It says a lot about the golf course and staff when our course is used as a Championship site.”

Congratulations and thank you for your services to the Section, Ray.
