Detroit Country Club Celebrates 100 Years

April 21, 2016

Detroit Country Club is celebrating its 100 years of existence this year, joining PGA of America in their centennial celebration.

In what is an exciting season for local golfers with Minnesota playing host to the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club, the 36-hole golf facility will be hosting a variety of events throughout the golf season in honor of the centennial anniversary.

As one of the oldest courses in Minnesota—estimated to be the seventh oldest, Detroit Country Club carries tons of tradition including their annual “Pine to the Palm” golf tournament—now in its 84th year. This tournament will be played the weekend of Aug. 8-10 on the Par 71, Pine to the Palm course.

“The facility has been played by a lot of resort people in the area,” said Detroit Country Club Head Golf Professional Mark Holm. “The history of the golf course most definitely catches the appeal of golfers.”

The Detroit Country Club 100 year celebration will be held July 1-3 at Lakeview Golf Course, the 18-hole executive course across the street. The three-day celebration will include a junior golf clinic run by PGA Professional Kathy Swanson, a long drive contest, short game challenge, and putting contest.

Alumni from the local high school golf team will be there as special guests as well as Detroit Lakes native and Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver, Adam Thielen. “Adam and his family have been very connected with the club. He played in the junior program and really enjoys and wants to give back,” said Holm.

In addition to the weekend celebration, the Detroit Country Club 100 year anniversary golf tournament will take place on July 11th.

There will also be a community party hosted at the Detroit Lakes Pavilion on July 28th.

There is a lot to be excited about at Detroit Country Club this summer, so whether you’re a beginner or avid golfer, join the fun!
