Smith and Israelson Named Ms. and Mr. Minnesota Golf

Windsong Farm Golf Club and the Ms. and Mr. Minnesota Golf Committee have announced that Kate Smith of Detroit Lakes and Andrew Israelson of Staples Motley are the 2016 Ms. and Mr Minnesota Golf, an award given to the state’s top senior girl and boy.

Smith and Israelson, past Class AA State Champions, will look to win another state title this year to cap off their high school careers. Most notably, Smith will be going for a Minnesota State High School League record fifth consecutive Class AA state championship today at The Ridges at Sand Creek. Israelson will also be at The Ridges competing for the Boys Class AA title, his other title came in 2014 when he shared the crown with Virginia’s Andrew Sederlund and Mankato East’s Carter Haley.

Bill Israelson, Andrew’s father, and Kris Smith, Kate’s father, are both Section Members, as well.

Bill is a decorated golfer with multiple Tapemark and Section Championship victories as well as a State Open title in 1991. He was inducted into the Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame in 2009.

Kris has been an incredible ambassador for growing the game of golf, specifically within Junior Golf. He was named Section Junior Golf Leader in 2012 as well as other Dakota Chapter accolades in regards to Junior Golf and promotion.

Kate and Andrew have been heavily involved in the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association throughout their golf careers and will represent Team Minnesota in the annual MN-WI Cup Matches in Stevens Point, WI at SentryWorld Golf Course on June 29-30.

Next year, Smith will be attending the University of Nebraska, and Israelson will head to North Dakota State University to continue their golf careers.
